Sell Period: May-August
Seed Form: ApeX Seed
Seed Count: 0 K/g
Sowing Time: February-May for flowering from May onwards; June-August for flowering in the following year
Sowing Method: Double-sow in plugs
Germination: Stage I: 10-12 days at 20-22 °C 68-72 °F, Stages II-IV: 11-28 days at 18-20 °C 64-68 °F. Needs dark to germinate. Fungigate the substrate to prevent the occurrence of damping off. Provide a thin Vermiculite cover and maintain a uniform moisture level. From Stage II on reduce moisture level and place seeds under light.
Growing On: 4-6 weeks after sowing, transplant into 9-11 cm 4'' pots using 1-2 plants per pot.
Media: Use a friable, coarse-fibered substrate with a pH of 5.5-6.5.
Photoperiod / Light: Daylength neutral plant.
Temperature: 12-18 °C 54-64 °F or grow outdoors. Vernalization is not required for the plants to initiate fl owers. However, if vernalized, plants produce a higher number of flowering stems in the second year. Plants may be overwintered in house at 3-5 °C 37-41 °F or in the field. Force at 12-15 °C 54-59 °F.
Fertilization: Requires medium to high nutrient levels.
Cultural Hints: Provide suffi cient drainage in the field. Geum will not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Excessive wetness will encourage stem and root rot to occur. Treat the plants with a fungicide prior to overwintering to avoid the occurrence of botrytis. Warering: Allow the root ball to dry off between irrigations.
* Germination Stages (from seed to finished young plant)
Stage I: Starts with the radicle breaking through the testa. The roots are touching the medium. Ends with fully developed cotyledons.
Stage II: Starts from fully developed cotyledons. Ends with the fully developed true leaf or true leaf pair.
Stage III: Starts from the fully developed true leaf or true leaf pair and ends with 80% of the young plants being marketable.
Stage IV: All young plants are ready for sale and in the process of being hardened off. This stage lasts about 7 days.
Hint:
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
